The Tropicana Casino Resort (often called the Trop) is a Cuban-themed property in Atlantic City. Its poker room is best known for offering the $7.50/$15 limit hold 'em pink chip game. The expansion of The Quarter, a semi-thematic collection of shops and restaurants, has improved the Trop's profile in AC, but its poker room still lags in popularity.
Getting there Edit
The Trop is located in the Downbeach area of Atlantic City, as the westernmost side of the casino district is referred to. Only the Hilton is farther south on the beach. Follow the olive-green signs upon arrival.
Self-parking is $5, Valet parking is $10, or $5 with a (free) Diamond club card.
The Room Edit
The poker room is on the second floor, almost directly above the hotel lobby, past the shopping/dining/entertainment section "The Quarter".
Games spread Edit
The Players Edit
The Trop has the same crowd as most Atlantic city casinos (with the exception of the Borgata): older locals & a few tourists, especially in the summer and on weekends. Most players here are not as skilled as the regulars at Taj or Borgata. Very few "pros" or sharks. Most games are friendly, rarely do you see arguments or loud trash-talking at the tables.
Wait time Edit
Short wait time for most games, usually no more than 20 minutes. The recent expansion of "The Quarter" has brought new life to the Trop's poker room; with the new players also comes a slightly longer wait time.
Dark-ish club-like atmosphere, difficult to see cards at certain angles. OK not great floor people. Waiting list for games is usually short, especially during the week. The Dealers are some of the best in Atlantic City, despite not every table having shuffling machines. Individual poker club players cards swiped at table to track players' hours.
