Reno is the second-largest city in Nevada, second only to Las Vegas. Being four hours closer to the San Francisco Bay Area than Vegas, it receives a significant portion of the gambling traffic from Northern California. The town of Sparks is immediately to the east of Reno, and together makes up the Reno/Sparks metro area, which is often considered one town. For instance, the convention center on South Virgina Street is actually called the Reno-Sparks Convention Center.
Reno's weather is significantly colder than Las Vegas - in the high desert, Reno gets a reasonable amount of snow each winter (note its proximity to ski resort town Lake Tahoe). In the colder months, warm clothing is a must.
