Ratholing is the act of inappropriately removing chips from the table, usually to avoid having to go all-in more than you intend to.

e.g.

Jack has 220 chips on the table, and the minimum buy-in is 20 chips.

Jack would rathole his chips if he were to leave this table to bank the chips then buy back in to the table at the minimum of 20 chips.
