A premium hand is a term used in Hold 'em and Omaha to describe one of the best possible starting hands. While exact definitions of which hands are "premium" vary slightly from poker instructor to poker instructor, there are a few general basics:
Hold 'Em[]
- AA
- KK
- AK suited
Many authors and/or poker pros would also include other top hands under the arbitrary label "premium":
- JJ
- TT (pair of tens)
- AQ suited
- AK offsuit
- AQ offsuit
Some poker authors may even consider any pocket pair a "premium hand".
Omaha Hi-lo[]
- AA23 double-suited
- AA24 double-suited
- AA23 with one suited ace
