The casino essentially sits in the middle of nowhere, about 20 miles due west of Sacramento. It's tricky to get there, but recommended route is to head onto I-505 north from I-80, take the CA Highway 16 exit, head west, and drive about ten miles. Be careful; Hwy 16 doglegs several times, goes through small towns and villages, drops to speed limit 35 a few times through Esparto, Madison and Capay,(and they do enforce it!), and in general is more bucolic than efficient. You can't miss the casino, though, it's the only thing in view for miles when you get there. Parking entrance is on the west side of the casino.

(If coming from Sacramento, take I-5 north to Hwy 16 and go west from there).

Game Review: Original Poster said:

pretty steep blinds for a $100 buyin. I saw a couple shark types, one guy had probably over $1,500. I got lucky to triple up at one point, and when I had a comfortable amount of chips I found most of the competition to be soft and I could bully them effectively.

4/8: Seemed quite loose and fairly juicy for the weekend night I was last there; tipsy gamblers betting and raising all the way with low pairs and such.

[edit] Wait Time

Varies with the game and limits and time of day; relatively short, I thought. Approximately 15-30 minutes. On friday and saturday night the wait can be as long as two hours for a specific/uncommon game (e.g. 10/20), but only about 10-15 minutes for a typical 3/6 or 4/8 game.

[edit] Tournaments

Friday tournament is advertised, best to call ahead for info. Now hosting tournaments on Wednesday PM, Friday afternoon, Sunday afternoon. Soon to start a Saturday tounament with rebuys. Late October 2008 hosting a 550.00 entry tourney, and is running sit and go satellites all month. Check website for specific times for all events. Dave (Oct 1, 2008)

[edit] Jackpots

As of May 2008, Bad Beat is now Aces full of queens, and the total jackpot amount available has grwon to 225,000. Jackpot pays out (usually 10,000-20,000), where 50% goes to the badbeat, 25% to the winner, at the other 25% to the rest of the table. Aces cracked pays 50.00 during the weekdays, as of March; will go back up to $100 some time during the summer. Overnight play has a high hand award every two hours. Royal Flush Jackpots are also available, $250.

[edit] Atmosphere

(In a totally bone-headed move, Cache Creek has moved poker from the stand alone beautiful room, and relocated it to the slots tournament area between the Sports Page Cafe and the Hotel elevators. It is out in the open, Way too loud, surrounded by slot machines, and nothing like the great room that it was before. All this happened around Octobetr 1, 2009.)

They have just (March 19, 2007) opened a brand new poker room at Cache Creek, and have gone to great lengths advertising it. Big billboards line the local freeways, and radio ads have players gushing over the "28 tables of poker!". Cache Creek tries hard to be a "major casino that happens to be in the middle of a field", and in many ways they succeed. Now that their poker room has been redone, it rates towards the top of the local poker rooms.

It's a mellow room with a nice amount of space between the tables (without feeling empty). It's set off from the main casino, but not closed off - a decorative half-railing separates it from the rest of the casino, and large arches through which your friends can watch you play - if your table is near the rail. A number of large LCD televisions are hung on the nicely-decorated wall, and the kiosk where the brush lets you sign up from games is large and nicely placed. This room now reminds me strongly of the very elegant room found at the Red Rock Casino Resort in Las Vegas.

Although they purport to spread 10/20 half-kill, Omaha, and 1000-min no-max NL, they usually fill all of their tables with 3/6, 4/8 kill, and 200-500 NL. They do occasionally run 10/20 half kill (a player at my 4/8 table on a Saturday night had come from the 10/20 table when it broke), but it's rare. The emphasis is squarely on the lower limits here, though at peak times you can find medium limits.

The room is now non-smoking, which is nice. Unfortunately, the dealer quality has not improved much... yet.

They now have the same sort of high-tech players-card automated table system found at the Station Casinos chain; hand your players club card to the dealer when you sit down, and they will swipe you in at the table. Your first name will appear on the dealer's display screen, and they can track the number of hours you play. They now award prizes to players who play regularly. Log 50 hours and win a hat, 100 hours for a shirt, etc. Prizes subject to change, of course. They do not track wins and losses - only hours played.

Neighborhood: You're in the middle of nowhere! What neighborhood? There's farms and fields on all sides.

Parking: Lots and LOTS of parking available on site. Valet parking also available.

Tables and Chairs: Extra-large 9-player tables. Felt is soft rich ruby felt with good padding and a clean commit line. Player chairs are extra-comfy lowbacked leather-padded wooden chairs with nice padding. Slide-in cup holders available for drinks.

[edit] Service and Comps

No food service; looks like you cannot eat at the tables. Drinks available through standard casino cocktail waitresses, with standard slide-under-the-armrest cup holders. Drinks seemed reasonably priced.

It's unclear if you earn comp points on your Cache Creek Player's Card for playing; they certainly track it and you earn rewards, but I don't know if those count the same as comp points for the other games and slots at the casino.
