A famous 2+2 thread about online poker players moving to and living in Thailand.

Anything at all. I was there for nine months and am soon headed back and cannot wait. Also with the 2+2 International idea about thought it might be good for you guys to
learn a bit more about it beyond what the brochure says.
VeganMav, BeerMoney, MagicNinja, KKF and Farang0...please feel free to help me out here. I'll be checking this thread periodically throughout the day.
NT! I will not answer any questions for you until you publicly state that Amplify has the best Avatar on 2+2 and you post a pic of a chic that you have banged. Its only fair.

Ever gone in bareback?
I had one condom break with a semi-girlfriend and didn't realize it for about 30 seconds. Also did with another girl I was dating knowingly and then once with a 17 year old chic who was working at my friends bar who was probably the hottest Thai girl I have ever seen.

Are you into nightlife, natural beauty, culture? Maybe just give me your age/relationhip status or something.
It is a very diverse country even though what people hear about is a pretty narrow set of activities.

Degen - thanks, I'm 30 and into beaches and nightlife (at least that's what I'd try to get out of going to Thailand I think). I'd be going with a group of friends around my age (all single), guys and women. I guess cause it'd only be a week, I was thinking like "how long to stay in Bangkok, which beaches with limited time to hit" kind of question.

Excellent post man.
I too am interested in the cost of living and quality of life.
1. What would a middle class (North American standards) couple with no children have to spend per month on food/lodging/entertainment etc.. if they wanted to "upgrade" and live "well"?
2. What are the biggest issues with living in what is commonly accepted as a third world country?
3. How reliable is basic infrastructure (electricity/cable/internet/roads/public transport - etc...)?
4. How corrupt is law enforcement (a 2+2 poster was caught with some weed and extorted out of $2000 USD in exchange for not getting booked - is this common?).
TIA - I will ask more as I think of new questions.

Madd 09/27/06 01:54 PM

Degen, how do you get the 90 day visas? I usually buy the 3x60 days tourist visa. The one year / 90 days visa require a lot of paper work and some "real" documents to my knowledge.

xxThe_Lebowskixx 09/27/06 01:55 PM

huh?

jackdaniels 09/27/06 01:58 PM

huh?

Sounds like buddy is a rich AZN and wants to know if the hookers will care that he is not white.

Degen 09/27/06 02:00 PM

why do you like thailand?

Short answer: It is cheap, the people are great, its super easy to pick up hot girls (not hookers, real chics) and the women treat you much different than in America, there are tons of other foreigners/poker players, islands are amazing, food is great and just a general sense of well being when I am there.

Even though I'm successful and whatnot in America, there are tons of more successful people everywhere I look. In Thailand, any white dude is just THE MAN. Might sound kinda lame or something, but it is a pretty sweet feeling.

what do you do there? describe a typical day. describe a nontypical day.

I work online from home playing poker and doing web projects, so a lot of my day is spent in my home office. I'll usually have a girl over from the night before (I'm not bragging at all, any of you could easily go there as well and have multiple girlfriends if you wanted to) and she'll make breakfast etc. Go out for lunch in the afternoon, come back work some more then some type of activity...play pool, go to a mall, movie and then most nights go out. Probably drink a good 4 nights a week over there.

Basically just pursuing leasure. Taking it super easy. No stress whatsoever.

Non-typical is usually when people are visiting and we go really big or take trips. Thats a lot of fun.

does the political unrest bother you?

Not at all. It is a third world country, these things are to be expected. I'm looking forward to going back in a month.

1. A couple can live very good for 2,000 USD a month. 3,000 USD and you are living very large.

2. If you are smart, its very safe. If you dont do drugs or keep bad company. It is pretty easy to have someone killed though if you keep bad company.

3. Infatstructure is great. You can catch domestic flights all over the place. BKK has subway/train, very effective if your apartment is well located.

4. See #2.

Tuq PM'ed me and requested that I ask you the following:

Is it easy to get with little kids?

Degen 09/27/06 02:04 PM

What is the approximate monthly cost to live well off in Thailand?

I can't imagine ever spending more than 4k a month on the most absolute baller lifestyle imaginable. Thats like penthouse apartment in Bangkok with a redic view, going out every night to the best clubs, live in maid etc etc

xxThe_Lebowskixx 09/27/06 02:04 PM

Sounds like buddy is a rich AZN and wants to know if the hookers will care that he is not white.

Madd 09/27/06 02:07 PM

1. What would a middle class (North American standards) couple with no children have to spend per month on food/lodging/entertainment etc.. if they wanted to "upgrade" and live "well"?

Not Degen, but anyway: A couple should get by very, very well with 2-3k $. The reason why it isn't less is that you can afford to do many nice things. The price is cheap in each case, but it adds up.

2. What are the biggest issues with living in what is commonly accepted as a third world country?

You are far away from friends and family. It is dirtier than in america/europe/australia. The traffic is chaotic. See question #3.

3. How reliable is basic infrastructure (electricity/cable/internet/roads/public transport - etc...)?

You have power outages (arund 1 per month where I live). DSL is not very reliable, so you should use a UPS and a second internet connection to be fine. The roads aren't great, but not that bad either. I don't know much about public transport because I use taxis (very cheap) in general.

4. How corrupt is law enforcement (a 2+2 poster was caught with some weed and extorted out of $2000 USD in exchange for not getting booked - is this common?).

You shouldn't have problems here with law enforcement unless you kill somebody or do drug trafficking. That said, I always hear that before and after loy krathong (sp.), xmas etc. the cops need more money and stop more cars for speeding/motobike-driver for not wearing a helmet. 100 baht = around 2.50$.

Degen 09/27/06 02:07 PM

Is it easy to get with little kids?

I've never seen this. They did have a bar in Nana Plaze in Bangkok called the After School Bar that was rumored to have underaged (under 18) girls. It got shut down. I went there a few times and most of the girls were older but they did have a couple girls that looked 14-16 there. But all Thai girls look really young so hard to say.

I've also heard that Cambodia is very popular for this sort of thing and you can go there and buy like 11 year old hookers if you want. No I don't condone this and I think its disgusting, but it is there.

xxThe_Lebowskixx 09/27/06 02:14 PM

here are my complaints about thailand

1. traffic is really horrible if you want to go somewhere outside of the skytrain/subway range. bangkok is pretty poorly designed. airport to your house can sometimes take upwards of 2 hrs if the traffic is bad.

2. pollution is pretty bad. are there any trees in bkk?

3. everywhere you go, you see 50 year old dudes dressed in shorts and a tank top walking around what is obviously paid company. these are mostly 'tourists' and not expats who dont give a [censored] what thai people think about them or how they are presented.

tuq 09/27/06 02:14 PM

I said "boys", not "kids", so you changed my question. WTF?

TroutMaskReplica 09/27/06 02:14 PM

1. A couple can live very good for 2,000 USD a month. 3,000 USD and you are living very large.

i'm seriously considering taking 3-6 months over there next year but $2000/month is more than i'd heard as far as cost of living (even taking into account that you're talking about a couple living comfortably).

i'm a 32 yo guy, looking to rent a simple apt in bangkok for my full stay, get a good internet connection, live well but not extravagantly, and take a few weeks here and there to see other parts of the country. i know this is the sort of stuff everyone asks, just wondering if i can do this for closer to $1000/month or whether i'm dreaming...any advice appreciated Degen 09/27/06 02:14 PM

Are you worried about the Muslim fundamentalists or is that largely in the southern part of the country?

To be perfectly frank, if you are the type of person that worries about stuff like that...Thailand is probably not for you. Thailand is seriously the safest place I have ever been to in my entire life with regard to getting robbed, stabbed, mugged or shot. Though i constantly hear this kind of thing and laugh. No I'm not at all worried.

I heard a good saying awhile back, 'If you are the kind of person who is scared to eat street food because you might get sick, then you should't go to Thiland'. I think it is very true. It isn't for the squeamish

And are the women as insanely beautiful as I hear?

This is totally a matter of taste. I actually prefer Japanese women but in a recent thread a couple of others disagreed with me. Until that I really didn't think it was a matter of preference but I guess it is.

The average Thai women, to me, has a great ass and legs but a pretty sub-par face. You will find an occasional one with an amazing face (at least by my standards) but its rare.

What is great about them is the way that they treat you and make you feel. This absolutely cannot be beat.

Degen 09/27/06 02:17 PM

do thai women only like white guys or do (rich) asians actually stand a chance?

There are a lot of Japanese men who go to Thailand. Some women prefer these men and wont date white dudes.

It is all about the money over there. What they generally don't like are poor, drunk, abusive or gay thai men. There are loads and loads of them. Neat little supply and demand thing going on over there.

So ya, if you are rich and asian you would not have a problem finding 9 girlfriends.

I guess cause it'd only be a week, I was thinking like "how long to stay in Bangkok, which beaches with limited time to hit" kind of question.

Hi Al,

Ok I wouldn't really stay in Bangkok at all except for shopping. It is a nice city but it can be hard to navigate and your chances of spending all day frustrated, sweaty and stuck in traffic are a lot greater than of actually having a great day.

I'm sure you guys will want to shop, so I'd go to MBK, Fortune Plaza and/or Jatu Juk (how do you spell that? its the open air market...). You'll buy more fake diesel t-shirts and cool looking wooden vases than you could ever want. Thats day 1 (or day 7 i spose).

Then head to the islands. You are gauranteed to have a blast. Phuket is a popular choice and if you are prepared to spend some coin you'll probably have a good time there. I prefer the smaller islands like Ko Phi Phi, Ko Pha Ngan and Ko Tao.

You can get huts on the beach for really cheap, eat at the attached restaurant and rent motorcycles for the day for $5 and drive all over the island. Nightlife there at all of these places as well.

Krabi is also very nice, its a beach province inland.

As you have the ladies with you, I'd stear clear of Patong in Phuket and of all of Pattaya. Thats hooker central.

Feel free to PM me as the time gets closer or when you are over there.

4. See #2.

I agree with all of this.

I will add that possibly the reason I think it is so safe is because I don't keep bad company. I have heard a few stories of the type of stuff he is implying here. Because of the harsh drug laws i would STAY AWAY from that type of activity all together while in thailand...simply not worth the risk (your life).

Regarding infrastructure: It is not nearly as good as in America things are very very slow. Thai people are [censored] lazy and thats just how the culture is. You have to learn to deal with that and be Jai Yen and Sabai Sabai as the poster said in the other thread. Once you get the hang of it its pretty fun actually. You basically just don't care too much about much of anything, its always just like 'meh, whatever, smile'

At the full moon party they have a nice little racket going. If you are caught with drugs you owe a very large fine in cash on the spot, or you go to jail. I beleive its about $2k US and that might be what happened to said poster.

The cops dont get paid much so I'd imagine if you were in some ish you could bribe them...but there really isn't the need for that. If you are coming to cause trouble...go some place else.

Degen 09/27/06 02:35 PM

I've heard there is a huge industry of young gay male prostitutes in Pattaya.

When I use the term 'heard' i am not saying this [censored] is personal experience. I'll be very honest about whatever. Checkout www.thaivisa.com or www.ajarn.com or (NSFW www.barladies.com (NSFW) if you want some cool forums on various topics

I've never tried the cheap route but I am positive you can do it for $1k a month. You can get apartments for $150 a month or even less. Food is uber cheap even when you eat out all the time...if you went grocery shopping it'd be damned near free. The only variable here is shopping and travel. If you travel on the bus and stay in cheap hotels ($10 a night or less) you'll be fine.

People asked about living big. Thats what we answered. You can obviously live very cheap as well.

Keep in mind the minimum wage in Bangkok is less than $5 per day US. So those people are living on like $100 a month.

No. But if you are friends with a drug dealer, and his girl friend smiles at you...Or there is a party at his house, and one of his other friends is drunk and his gf smiles at you...

Degen 09/27/06 02:46 PM

How much English is spoken there? Is it hard to communicate with most people?

Tourist area's they speak enough to assist you with what you are doing. Non-tourist areas you'll find a lot of people who speak none.

That is actually one of the things that gets to you after being there for several months...or at least gets to me. It is pretty rare to have deep conversations with Thai people because of the language barrier.

I have a friend over there who is practically married to his Thai GF and he told me that is really starting to frustrate him and he is thinking of dumping her. Keep in mind she is eductated, upper class Thai, she's also nearly a perfect 10 and she's about as hot as they come...she speaks english better than 95% of people you will run into.

As a tourist this is not an issue and is kind of fun. As you live there longer it starts to wear on you.

Aloysius 09/27/06 02:47 PM

xxThe_Lebowskixx 09/27/06 02:50 PM

Deg is totally right about not letting things bother you. In Thailand, its very important to never cause anyone to lose face. That means that you never insult anyone or raise your voice. For narotic Americans who "Didnt want onions on it" this will probably be the hardest part.

Also, so many farang are incapable of handling and understanding thai women, or the way that thai people think and how to get what they want from them.

if you are the type of guy who "doesnt care" but is arguing because "its the principle"... just stay home you will get eaten alive.

Degen 09/27/06 02:51 PM

Degen 09/27/06 03:33 PM

What positive traits have you picked up from being in Thailand, surrounded by thai ppl. Basically, How
have you changed?
Wow man, great question, and I'm very proud to be able to answer this.
The answer is yes! It has changed me!
To put it bluntly, I can be an a$$hole. I lack empathy in a lot of social situations and piss friends off at times. Not like I'm perfect now, but I have improved a ton. Friends I've had problems with for years have now become very close friends just due to simple changes I make when communicating with them.
Its like KKF said about not raising your voice or insulting people. I was the stereotypical stupid farang running around w/ hookers I thought were my GF and yelling at Thai people.
After about a month I realized what a [censored] moran I was being, just stomping on their culture and pissing people off...even though they weren't telling me they were mad.
It all kinda started when we were in a taxi and I kept yelling at the driver, finally i tapped him on the shoulder pointing down a specific road. He slammed on the breaks instantly and turned around and started screaming at me at the top of his lungs in Thai. We of course had no idea what he was saying but it was clear he basically wanted to kill me. He started waving at the door and told us to get out. Didn't take the money even though we had been in the cab for like an hour driving around looking at apartments.
That was a huge wake up call. That guy had probably been pissed at me for most of that hour because of the way i was talking to him. He had finally had enough, and I think thats fairly common with Thai people. They bottle it up. Probably why you hear about Thai girls killing their boyfriends and stuff.
So ya, after that I started trying to learn about the culture and the people. I picked up some books on it. Slowly it started to just be who I am.
In America I find myself bowing a lot instead of waving or shaking hands, and also find myself smiling more as a greeting or when leaving.
I also find myself thinking more before speaking in a lot of situations and often times not saying anything at all.
I also don't care so much about little things in America that used to infuriate me and drive my friends nuts. Stupid drivers, people taking a long time at grocery stores, business delays (i'm setting up a company in vegas) with vendors etc etc. I'm just kinda shrug it off.
I also say Up To You an insane amount when people ask me to make a choice on something. That is very Thai.
And obv, it has given me the full on asian fever
There are many more, but yes...if you live there, it will profoundly impact your character, I would assume in a postive way.
Also, do you feel you are getting ripped off alot by "hustlers" in Thailand?
I feel like they try to rip me off a lot, but its pretty easy to figure things out quickly.

this cannot be stressed enough.

i'd take a totally average looking thai wife over a standard american woman most guys would rate as a 9.

For example, if you wanted...with your thai girlfriend, you could have sex once a week, get head from here every night often in the morning too...and never ever go down on her. She'd be fine with this. Ya, that can make an american relationship problematic...along with them not doing your laundry, cooking for you or just generally making you feel great all the time.

Can you talk more about the food? is it pretty similar to what you'd find at a Thai restaurant in the states? do you get a lot of food from street vendors? sitdown restaurants? or mostly just have your harem take turns feeding you when it's not their turn to fan you with large leaves?

It isn't BS. It is about being happy and treating people with respect and taking their feelings into account when making decisions.

Average american salary: $40k Average thai salary: $500 a year

Average american is fat, depressed and unhappy with their life and work.

Average thai is the opposite of all of these things.

The best food IMO is on the streets. Its super cheap too.

Thai restaurants in America that I've been to don't stack up, but I haven't been to many.

You can't get much good American food over there unfortunately.

How cold does it get during the winter? How hot during the summer.

I was just there this past summer and it is disgustingly hot at times. If you are someone who sweats easily, you will be soaked all day if you are outside.

The Thai people are very modest and will never wear shorts and often wear long-sleeved shirts as well. It is crazy to see them completely comfortable in the heat while you are sweating your ass off in your shorts and t-shirt and looking for somewhere to cool off.

Mosquitos are not a big problem in Thailand if you are in the city but can be a small nuisance in the islands and more rural areas.

This is all accurate. If you go to the islands def bring insect repellant.

The best time to go to Thailand is November-Feb or so. Peak tourist season is X-Mas/NYE

How did you proceed in some of your typical pick up/hook up with the Thai girls? Can you give a mini trip report?

My roomate was seeing a girl he'd met at a club. I went over to pick up some keys from him after going out one night and he was hanging out w/ his girl and her two roomates. One was meh and one was pretty cute. They invited me to drink with them, I did.

I'll be perfectly honest here, I'd only have had a chance with the meh one in America, the other girl was upper class thai, rich family, fluent english, has been all over the world...and very attractive.

So anyway, we're all drinking and I'm giving more attention to the cute one so the other one gets the hint and goes to bed. Takes me like two hours to get my clueless friend to take his chic in the room. It got so bad that me and this chic were saying overt stuff like 'Getting late huh' then nodding to the bedroom at them and [censored]. I finally grabbed him and pulled him in the room after he went to the bathroom...then told him not to get up off of the bed, then told his girl she could go in there now. The two girls looked at each other and started giggling and she went in the room.

So now we're alone and flirting etc, but she's a bit standoffish. Thai girls are kinda like that. Haven't figured it out yet but they dont' respond well to overt aggressive behavior.

Anyway finally start kissing her but she wont let me do anything else. Total prude. I sleep on the couch with her cuz everytime I say I'm gonna go home she starts like grinding on me and [censored], trying to get me to stay. Repeat till like 9am, I finally bounce.

Got her number but didn't call her. Thought it'd be hard to bang her and didn't really want a g/f at the time.

So whatever obviously we end up hanging out again, I went to play pool as a group and she was there. She was way into it this second time and I dropped little things that Thai girls love to her...she's pretty, i like her yada yada. They know its bull [censored] and you know its bull [censored] but its like the art of bull [censored] that is so fun to them.

Anyway we finally end up back at our place drinking, i have to do the same thing with my idiot friend. This time I get the girl on my bed with a bottle of grey goose, a can tonic water and two cups of ice...get the music on and the light off, but forgot to close and lock the door...he comes in with his chic and starts dancing in my room and talking to us. WTF NOOB???

So ya, finally get them out with some very overt 'hey dude, leave, im working her'...she doesn't seem to care and they bounce after awhile.

So now time to get at this again. She plays all coy and [censored]. Whatever, tell her i'm gonna play some poker, i hop online and start telling The4aces (2p2er) whats going on and i'm pissed this chic wont let me get at it. She comes over and lures me back. Wont let me get at it again, only kissing. I go back to comp, he tells me to play it cool and go back to the bed and act like i dont want her. I do that, and she immediately takes off her shirt and bra and hops on me. Ship it. I act interested in this (i'm a slow learner) and she loses interest. I say [censored] it i'm going to sleep and turn over, she then takes off her shorts and underwear and turns me over and hops on.

Alright, fine...I can't act like i like this. So I don't. I pretend to not notice she is totally naked and trying to turn me on...i talk about random [censored] for awhile.

Then i'm suddenly getting head and then ya...

I had this same exprience with several real thai chics, tho i used what i learned here.

1) gotta play it cool 2) they will be very conservative on date 1....on date 2 they often [censored] you...its weird

Thanks ryan

BE CAREFUL OF LADYBOYS.

They just like white guys. We are inherently just very attractive to them. It is tied to money, but its not so simple like you think about it here. Every woman likes security etc. That is just really really really important to them because the country is so poor.

They are super shy at first, so you have to find some kind of an ice breaker, some way to build rapport. Once you are in and if you are nice, they are very receptive.

Ask for her number, call her up. Done and done.

These are only in very specific bars in very specific parts of town. Overall Thai people are very shy and passive and the culture is one that doesn't value overt types of things like this (ladyboys are the exception and something i'll probably get into later).

that said there are lotsa freaky things you can go see if you so desire. i went to a bar like that once, saw a chic pull a huge knife out of her vagina then have the bouncer tell us to pay 400 baht (like $10...A SHITTON OF MONEY in thailand) for watching it, then left. never to return.

I'm fairly certain from Canada you can get a non-imm visa and stay for 90 days. You can show up and get a 30 day visa at the airport. You could repeat this for a total of 90 days by going to Cambodia (a few hours bus ride from bangkok). After 90 days of that you'd be frozen out for 90 days. If you want to be there for longer than 90 days you need to get a non-imm visa.

At the full moon party they have a nice little racket going. If you are caught with drugs you owe a very
large fine in cash on the spot, or you go to jail. I beleive its about $2k US and that might be what
happened to said poster.
The cops dont get paid much so I'd imagine if you were in some ish you could bribe them...but there really
isn't the need for that. If you are coming to cause trouble...go some place else.

I'll own up to it - it was me. I certainly wasn't looking to cause any trouble (especially because in my
short experience the Thai people are extremely humble and welcoming people). I was also young and stupid and
thought I was safe, and couldn't pass up the chance to buy an ounce of weed for <$5. It was actually in a
Songtow (sp?) coming back from a trek in Chaing Mai. The cops pulled us over for a 'routine' spot check, but
I have a feeling they were tipped off by the driver (who, ironically, was high as hell on opium at the
time). Is that common?
Also - how do you handle the influx of North American, White businessmen who come there with the sole
intention of getting some 12 year old Thai boys? I found that the most difficult thing to get over when I
was there (again - mostly up North). Just seeing it made my skin crawl, but I'm certainly not one to impose
my values while in another county. But I will say it detracted from my overall enjoyment of the trip.
Is it true the STD rate among prostitutes is >90%?
Awesome thread by the way.

Edit

veganmav 09/27/06

I think with Thai girls you just have to be there.
Grow some balls and talk to them.
If you do that in America, you have a higher percentage chance of finding a gf. If you do it in Thailand,
you are almost guaranteed a gf.
So go out, party, and have fun, and when you see a girl who you like, just freakin talk to her, and it's
very likely to happen.
I know it sounds simple, but it's pretty true.

How bad a problem is AIDS/STDs? According to the cia they have a 2% rate for aids (sounds pretty big).

I know a lot of guys over there who do a lot of crazy [censored]. Everybody has been tested and everybody
has had condoms break. I know one guy who got chlamidia (curable), got meds for it and that was that.
Look on Wikipedia at the AIDS transmission rates. It is pretty hard to get it even w/out a condom from a
chic you know has aids even while SIIHP w/ no lube.
I know one guy who never uses condoms and bangs hookers all the time. He's been there awhile and is still
walking around. I think he's a retard and will probably die of AIDS.
The biggest problem with this is that Thai chics dont make you wear condoms. Hookers or otherwise. You dont'
have to wear one when getting head or when [censored] them. Its up to you.

Is AIDs concentrated in certain regions? Is there anyway to know if they girls you are having sex with
weren't hooking the night before?
I don't know for sure but I'd be willing to bet it is concentrated in the area's where the hookers work and
Isaan, where they all come from.
No way to know for sure about the girls. It is a fine line over there, it is really weird. There are like
these half and half girls who go to school and don't work in bars but go to clubs and go home with guys they
like who think might support them. It isn't so transactional as you'd think...maybe you don't pay them
anything ever, maybe they just want you to buy stuff for them or whatever, maybe she just wants you to marry
her so her family will be proud of her and you can buy them a goat or something lol It is a complicated
thing.
Straight hookers are pretty obvious, tend to have much different style of dress as well as mannerisms than
normal girls. Its those halfway ones that can be hard to spot

So when I got to BKK it was like 11pm and I was tired. There was a long ass line, maybe 60 or 70 people for
the standard, taxi. I'm like eff that, so I walk around the corner where some sketchy dudes are like, "you
need taxi? we have taxi! we take you anywher".
I get in with them, aware that it could be a scam. But I was tired and didn't think too clearly or care too
much.
I arrive at Bill's place after like half an hour, and they say "ok 2000 BAHT" i'm like "that's too
expensive'.
Oh yeah tehre are 2 sketchy taxi drivers not just one. So they look at eachother, then look at me and repeat
"2000 baht". I kinda was scared, and was like oh well whatever, so I gave them 2000 Baht, and was a fish.
Moral of the story: Only ride in Taxi's with a meter, and make sure they start the meter when you get in.
Also, you will probably get scammed once, but learn your lesson.
It cost me 2000 Baht, not too much, so I learned cheap.
I didn't get scammed again.

Get a girlfriend who can at least speak somewhat conversational english. I've tried it with girls who can't,
and its cool for the first week or so...body language and smiling go a long way, but ya...it gets annoying.
All future GF's will have to speak english pretty well.
Just go for college chics. They like white guys too

How difficult is it to meet guys or girls to just be friends with and be able to commyunicate well with?
I've met tons through 2+2 and my blog and I suspect I'll have a few beers with people who've been in this
thread at some point. So it shouldn't be hard for you to make white friends.
For Thai people, if you have some connection/job/class etc, not hard. Thai people are pretty nice.

On the street, or at the falafel stand or whatever.

Talk to people.

Great thread Degan. I have spent the last hour at work reading it. now time to go home! How are other 3rd world asian countries, such as Vietnam, Phillipines or Indonesia? Just curious if these are one in the same or not? I always assumed they all had similar cultures.

Vegan, Your taxi story is very standard and im sure anyone who has been to a 3rd world country has a similar taxi story. Also your avatar is one of the best i have ever seen.

i read somewhere there are a lot of hot russian girls there too. any validity to this? and if so, are they all just hookers?

Ya there are. There is one club in Bangkok called Novotel where a lot of Russian hookers hangout. They fit the 'hooker' stereotype way more than the Thai women. I've never had any interest, if i wanted to have sex with fat, bitchy white women i'd do it in america...

I've also heard there were lots of them in Pattaya but I've still yet to go.

Again, if people are interested in that type of thing at all, checkout This Forum NSFW

They talk about different clubs and hookers and all of that like we talk about poker.

Did you only go to bars and such places to pick up girls or were there other different places where you got a number or sealed the deal?

Where can one pickup women in Thailand? lol

Below is a picture of my buddy putting in work on a bus headed to Koh Samet from Bangkok.

How's the healthcare? Did you have health insurance while you were there?

nah, that stuff is cheap. you can get prescription meds on the street w/ no prescription (valium, xanax etc) and its cheap to go see a doctor.

i got a cavity filled for $50

This was so classic. We are stuck in traffic so the pace they are walking is about the pace the car is going. Patrick spitting to this random shy thai girl with a great ass. the fact that he exited a moving car to come and hit on her didn't seem to phase her at all, nor does the fact that there is a taxi full of white dudes rolling around laughing staring right at them.

ship the digits.

This I do not know, but would like to. If anybody has been to all of the above, please weigh in.

How hard is a 10 to come by for a typical average dude traveling over there?

missed this.

10's are rare over there. I've seen maybe 8 girls like that in the time i've been there. i mean like if you have some in, they'll be nice to you and give you their number. i've never gone past that stage with one so i can't give you too much more info that that.

they are very nice about even rejection i guess, you'll never know you dont have a shot lol they'll be very nice to you about it.

thai people are just nice

yes. i wouldn't/don't drink the water. our apartment building sold huge bundles of bottled water to us for cheap....which was nice cuz we rarely went shopping and bought most food from www.foodbyphonebkk.com or restaurants

I spent 6 months in Korea a few years ago, and found that they ranged from very friendly to completely obnoxious towards foreigners.

I'm curious what the Thai attitude is among parents when it comes to their daughters dating and possibly marrying a caucasian. Typically, Koreans very much frowned upon this.

Also, what are the chances of meeting a Thai woman 35+? Is divorce accepted within the culture? Are there single women in their 30's like in N.Amerca, or is it much rarer in Thailand?

xxThe_Lebowskixx 09/27/06

divorce rate <1%.

unless you want someone 35+, you can easily get someone younger.

poor families welcome a rich husband they can extort money out of.

rich familes, chances are they have been overseas, they may or may not be crazy about the idea.
